Is it for Dessert? Snack? Workout fuel? Breakfast?? How about all of the above! These chocolate brownie energy bites can help satisfy your chocolate or brownie craving in a healthier and more portable form. They are made with a food processor or blender and five simple ingredients: oats, dates, cocoa powder, tahini and garbanzo beans. Don’t worry about the beans, as their neutral flavor is not even noticeable in these bites and they add a good amount of extra protein, fiber and more whole food nutrition that you don’t get in traditional energy bites made without them.
I like to eat these for breakfast right after a morning run or workout and often take them on-the-go to eat at work or school or during a car ride somewhere. They hold together very well and don’t melt or get mushy outside of the fridge. They are great to take along to a potluck as no slicing is required and they are already portioned out into a convenient serving size. Also, they are made without oil and refined sugar and free of most allergens including dairy, eggs, nuts and gluten. Similar to all other food, you need to be mindful of not eating too many or possibly the whole batch in one sitting, as I know I’m guilty of doing!

Only 5 ingredients are needed to make these easy, delicious, nutritious and portable chocolate brownie chickpea energy bites that are vegan, gluten-free, nut-free and contain no oil or refined sugar!
- 1 can (15oz) drained & rinsed or 1 ½ cup cooked chickpeas
- 1 cup quick cooking or old-fashioned rolled oats
- ¼ cup tahini
- 10 medjool dates or 1 cup tightly packed any soft date variety of choice - pits removed
- ¼ cup + 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
Add chickpeas, oats, tahini, dates and cocoa powder into food processor or blender and process until everything is well combined, stopping when needed to scrape down the sides of the food processor or blender, and forms a ball of dough.
Remove dough ball and transfer to a mixing bowl. Take 1 tablespoon of dough and form into a ball by rolling it in your hands.
Repeat with the rest of the dough. Enjoy! Store them in the fridge for up to about 2 weeks.
You can sub out the tahini for any nut or seed butter of choice. I think tahini gives the bites a richer chocolate taste! Quick cooking oats is not instant oats.
